Why Did I Receive a Bill?

When your doctor or hospital provider orders diagnostic imaging tests (ultrasound, x-ray, MRI, CT scan, etc.), they use the results to evaluate and diagnose medical conditions. The radiologists from West County Radiological Group (WCRG) work with the facilities in the Mercy Health System to provide interpretations of the imaging services you received. WCRG also performs procedures in many of the Mercy hospital facilities.

Since 1969, WCRG has provided medical excellence for thousands of patients. We know that billing for services received in hospitals or outpatient-based facilities can be confusing. The following provides information to help you navigate your billing.

Why did I receive two separate bills? One from the hospital and another from WCRG?

WCRG is not employed by the hospital and therefore has separate billing for services. The services we provide include:

  • Sub-specialty radiologists who plan and interpret the tests to determine a diagnosis that will help guide your treatment plan
  • Preparation of a permanent written report
  • Sharing and sometimes discussing the test results with your referring physician/provider

You may also receive a separate bill from the facility where the testing was done. This bill covers the hospital or facility costs for the equipment, supplies, nursing care, etc. WCRG provides the physicians’ professional services.

How can I find out about the cost of my diagnostic services?

How much you pay for an imaging study depends on several factors, including the following:

  • Type of radiology test your doctor has requested
  • If you have health insurance
  • The insurance plan’s requirements and your coverage (i.e., co-pays, deductibles, etc.)

Ask your hospital provider for a price quote for their fees. Starting in 2023, they will have our fees too. Before that, the hospital can call us with the correct codes, and we can give them that information to pass on to you. Be sure to have the hospital provider factor in your insurance coverage. You can also contact your insurance provider to understand your charges better and if you need pre-authorization.

What if I don’t have insurance?

If you are uninsured, talk to the hospital provider about the cost of their fees.  They may have discounts available. WCRG also provides discounts if you are uninsured. Please contact our customer service department at 314-991-8200 or 800-449-6145.

What if the test has already been done, and I have questions about my bill?

If you have questions about your bill from WCRG, please get in touch with our billing office at 314-991-8200 or toll-free at 800-449-6145.

You can also pay your bill by visiting the website listed on your statement or calling our office to pay automatically over the phone.
